How To Improve Your Email Marketing Campaigns

👋 Hello there :)

This week, I’m going to be talking about email marketing.

First, email marketing is still very underutilized. A lot of people are put off by the low open rates and even lower engagement rates. No matter your industry, it’s considered quite an achievement to get an open rate above 50%.

Here are some tips that you can use to improve your email marketing performance.

Subject Line First...Preview Text Second...Email Content Third

What's that old cliche? Ah, here it is.

"You can have the best content ever but it means nothing if nobody opens your email."

When I work with my clients, I always tend to spend at least 30% or more time coming up with killer subject line and 30% working on the preview section which people will see when the email hasn't yet been opened.

Think about it from your perspective. How many seconds does it take for you to decide whether to open an email or delete it? A couple of seconds. If you want to boost your engagement, start devoting more time to improving your subject line and preview text.

Don’t underestimate the Double Send Strategy

This is by far the most underused tactic.

If you send out an EDM to 1,000 people for example, let's say 200 people open it and 15 people respond. That leaves 800 people who did not engage with the email.

If you're proactive and determined enough, you can get that engagement way up, using the double send strategy.

In simple terms, this tactic takes the same email content and  simply change the subject line and preview text.

Always encourage your readers to engage

Feedback is important and it matters. Find ways for your mailing list to engage with your emails. This could be through a content offer, asking for their feedback on a crazy idea you have or getting them to click on your Call To Action Button.

Make sure it looks ok on mobile. Most people are checking their emails on mobile these days and that number goes up every day.

And Finally.

Clean your email list frequently

Whether you’ve just started email marketing or have been going for a while, it’s worth making a small investment into a software tool that can run a diagnostics test on the health of each email. Software platforms like Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and Hubspot monitor the bounce rate very carefully. It’s not uncommon for fake emails to be on lists, so filter them out as often as possible. It will help your account avoid getting shut down or worse, banned.
